INFERNO
August 4 - September 5, 2003 |
CCA
Project Gallery presented a new work by Kendell Geers.
For his exhibition at the CCA Geers had hermetically sealed the entrance
to the gallery space with a wall constructed from concrete and broken glass,
trapping within all the ghosts of his predecessors. Trapped outside and
being confronted are the ghosts of history for the form is a quotation
from Hiroshima where the blast from the A-Bomb embedded glass shards in
concrete walls as far away as 2.2 km.
The Gates of Hell stands between 2 histories, that of art and that of life,
both being, in Geers opinion, oppressive hierarchies, both being the doorway
to Dante's Inferno through which we all must pass in order to understand
our place in the present.
Kendell Geers stayed in CCA Kitakyushu as Professor of the Research Program
during a month of July, 2003.
