Michael
Elmgreen (Denmark) & Ingar Dragset (Norway) live and work in
Berlin. The artist duo has been collaborating since 1995. Their
recent exhibitions include the 50th Venice Biennial; “Happiness”,
Mori Art Museum; “Suspended Space”, Taka Ishii Gallery
and the Gwangju and the Sao Paulo Biennials.
In their sculptural work and installations, Elmgreen & Dragset
reveal some of the power structures implicated in public and domestic
architecture. Through alterations of everyday objects or entire spaces,
they show us how design can control our behavioral patterns. Elmgreen & Dragset
have been burying a full scale gallery room into the ground; they
have been letting it fly hanging from two giant balloons; they have
been transforming a gallery space into a hospital room and they have
built a prison cell broken into two parts. |
