For
his project at the CCA, Bamgboye chose to explore the notion of
home,
not as a safe haven, but more as the consequence of hypermodernity
that, is at once able to erode old differences, while creating
conditions
for new ones, leading to challenging notions of the here and the
now. The new work, titled Uchi. Ilé. Héimat, brought together acquired
imagery from Nigeria, and found imagery of an anonymous German
family
that were found during Bamgboyé's stay in Berlin and new imagery
made during his stay in Japan, in the form of a multimedia projection
installation.Far
from a sentimental notion of home and belonging, the new work, in
similar vein to his other works brought together the strangeness
of
the self and the familiarity of the foreign.
Oladélé Ajiboyé Bamgboyé stayed at the CCA Kitakyushu as the Professor
of the Research Program from July 14 through August 5, 2000.
