Ken
Lum was born in Vancouver, Canada in 1956. He is currently a Professor
of Art at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. He has
also taught two years in Paris at the l'Ecole des Beaux Arts as well
as shorter periods at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, China,
and the Akademie Der Bildenden Kunst in Munich.
For over 20 years, Lum's art has been motivated by the social rules
and indeed ethos of publicity mediated culture. A central concern
is the problem of identity as it traverses photographic practice and
the sign systems of the family unit. Lum's work has found form in
various ways, from Furniture-Sculpture to Language-Paintings, and
Portrait-Logos to Photo-Mirrors. |
